Welcome to the jung- err, I mean, welcome to the first review of my reviews for the site! Since I am in charge of the reviews, I choose my favorite album (not to mention the most popular), from my favorite band, Guns N’ Roses. This album, Appetite For Destruction, changed the face of the rock n’ roll/heavy metal scene as we know it. From the hard hitting riffs in ‘Mr. Brownstone’, the unforgettable guitar work at the beginning of ‘Welcome to the Jungle’, to Axl’s climbing vocal range in ‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’, this is an album many people need to buy, especially if you’re beginning to get into the heavy metal scene (although I first suggest to buy some Black Sabbath or Led Zeppelin, but if you find this album, buy it).

‘Welcome to the Jungle’ is the classic heavy opener of the classic album, with the guitar riff-age Slash is known for in the band (now, the video is odd, with Axl Rose having a funky as hell hair style!). ‘It’s So Easy’ is, like most of the songs on the album, about sex. Add a nice chorus, and you’ve got yourself a great song. ‘Nightrain’ is one of my favorite songs off the album, it’s a hard and fast song that is set to kick you in the face, and leave a mark as it plays on. ‘Out Ta Get Me’ is a song that once again, proves Axl Rose’s lyrical genius when writing music. Great chorus, great musical work, great song overall. ‘Mr. Brownstone’, is about a heroin addiction, which isn’t surprising, seeing as most, if not all the bands at this time were on drugs, and tend to think up better things while on drugs (lyrical wise). ‘Paradise City’ is one of the more beloved songs off the album (I’m going to play this like a madman on the last day of school in my senior year). It is a very well known song, even with those who aren’t that familiar with Guns N’ Roses. ‘My Michelle’ is one of the songs that doesn’t totally stand out to people, but still a good song overall. This song was supposedly based on a girl that the band knew.

‘Sweet Child O’ Mine’ is the song, most girls, or even all of them go crazy about when they hear it. This is the song Guns N’ Roses is mainly known for, beginning with that unforgettable guitar work by Slash (and the swaying movement Axl makes in the video? Mmmm...). Guys (and girls), this is a song you should most defiantly dance to with your date at the prom. ‘You’re Crazy’ is another one of the hard and heavy songs on this album, and is a great one at that. Great little ditty to sing along to. ‘Anything Goes’ is, once again, about sex. And Axl Rose goes up to your face in this song:

Tied up, tied down, up against the wall. Be my rubbermade baby, an' we can do it all

Nice, eh? The final song, ‘Rocket Queen’ is a terrific last song for the album. It has a hypnotic beginning that takes you into the song, a kind of long solo work done by Slash, and just when you think the song is finally over…it isn’t.

Guns N’ Roses’s Appetite For Destruction is by far one of the most recognizable heavy metal albums to date. Sixteen years after its release, this album continues to stand for its main purposes: Sex, Drugs, and Rock n’ Roll.
